2013 Irish BMX National Series – Round 3

Round 3 of the National Series took place on the 7th April out at the fast, smooth and windy Ratoath Track. 120 riders in all signed up for the day. The weather amazingly stayed fine considering there was snow on the track 10 days before! All the teams were out making the effort to erect the tents / pits down the side of the track, Congress BMX, Principal Stay Strong, CAAM Racing / CCM Racing and Area 57 where all there in force. Not forgetting the effort that Bikestore.ie put in setting up their displays.

The big news of the day was that Spanish rider, Diego P. Del Pobil, who has just turned Elite raced our Superclass category. Diego won … squirrely McShane somehow stayed on his bike to take second.

Other groups of note where the 9 year old and the 14 year old boys. In the 9’s we saw the return to the top for Lee O’Sullivan of Congress BMX Racing, Lee just about held off Niall Davis for the win with Ryan Quinn taking third which just keeps him on the top of the table but it’s getting tight up there. In the 14’s we had the top 4 riders swapping places all day but it was Sam Murphy who amassed the best points tally on the day to take the win. Eoin Corrigan finished second and Katie O’Neill grabbed the third spot. Katie also raced in the 15+ Ladies group taking the win there, pretty good trophy haul for the day!

Morgan Kearney made it 3 wins from 3 in the 10’s as did Abby Steacy in the 8-10 girls, Corey Waller in the 7 boys, Adam Davis in the 13’s, Kate Larkin in the 11-14 girls and Ross Callaghan in the 11’s boys. Ross’s dad Ian was on top form in the 30+ Adult class taking the win putting him joint second in the table with Rod Hughes who was second on the day. Stephen Bagnall did enough to stay on top of the league table with a third. This group is becoming one to watch!

The 15 year olds were merged into the 16-29 year olds but it was one of the 15 year olds, Aaron Edwards of Unit 8 Haro who fought his way to first place on the day followed by Arran Kelly who was making a rare appearance on the gate.

Another great days racing, thanks must go to all at the Ratoath Club for another smoothly run event!
